An Altoona Mirror report states that the judge ruled that Andre Staton is suffering from a mental disease, and has filed many appeals of his death sentence, and now must have proper representation. In 2004 Staton was accused of and in 2006 was convicted of killing his girlfriend Beverly Yon in 2006 in front of her chldren. Staton was sentenced to death for Yon’s murder, but he has continued to appeal from prison, without success. With the ruling that Staton is mentally ill, it is unlikely that his execution would be carried out. And also, that this decision means that Staton may not understand his legal position and any options that he may still have.
