A report in the Altoona Mirror indicates that the parents of a victim have filed suit against the district after the case of former wrestling coach Ryan Blazier was completed. Blazier was convicted of sexually abusing at least 2 boys who were in the Bellwood Antis wrestling program. The suit alleges that Bellwood failed to protect the child. The attorneys for the district have asked Judge Tim Sullivan for a direct verdict against Blazier, and not the district, claiming that the district is not responsible for Blazier’s actions. Attorneys for the plaintiff say that 2 janitors may have witnessed the assault, or had knowledge of them. Failed to report it, thus making the district responsible. Jury selection is slated to begin October 2, with the trial date set for October 10.
