Television news reports indicate that the State Senate has approved a bill that would move the state’s presidential primary up 5 weeks next march, to march 19. If passed and signed by Gov. Shapiro, Pennsylvania would join Florida, Ohio, Arizona and Kansas on the 19th with primary voting. Democrats are criticizing he bill, saying it would interfere with the conclusion of the 2023 general election duties. Senate President Kim Ward says that Pa has the 5th highest amount of registered voters in the country, and yet our presidential primary is virtually meaningless when it comes to selecting presidential candidates. Pa is considered a key battleground state for electing the next president, and lawmakers want more of a say in who runs. The bill has to be passed by the now Democrat controlled house.
