Yesterday the state house approved a bill that would move the primary up to April 2nd 2024. The bill passed strictly along party lines by a 102-100 vote, and now goes to the republican controlled senate, where its future is not certain. The report states that the move is to accomodate people not having to vote during Passover. Senate Republicans want to move the date up further to march 19th, and that is where the conflict comes into play. A March 19 primary would join Arizona, Kansas, Illinois, Florida and Ohio on that day. Those against the March date say that is not enough time to finalize the 2023 November election, and would overlap with an early primary date.
