The Altoona Mirror reports today that the City of Altoona is underway with preparing the 2024 budget, and it contains some good news, at least for now. The proposed spending plan does not contain any tax increase for residents. But that may not last beyond next year. The city will reportedly use money received from the American Rescue Plan to fund the cost 14 employees. That money will run out next year, and the city will then have to face how to keep those workers, or look at cutting services. One way to avoid cuts is to build up the city tax base. A tentative budget is expected by November 13, and a final proposal is set for adoption December 4th.
