Officials in the state capitol are warning seniors not to give out any banking information to callers claiming to be with the state treasury dept and looking for information about the rent rebate program. The scammers will ask you for your personal banking information, telling you that they need this information to set up a direct deposit of your rent rebate money into your account. The treasury dept will never call to obtain information over the phone. If you receive one of these calls, you are urged to hang up and don’t answer any questions.
