Panel Approves Open Local Meetings to Adjoining Residents

If you are interested in addressing local leaders in an area you don’t live in, that might soon be allowed.   A House Bill has been approved in committee that would allow residents from an adjoining local government or school district to speak at local government meetings. House Bill 1810 would let “persons of interest” who are residents with a stake in a matter, talk during a public comment period. House Local Government Committee Chairman Robert Freeman says a township in his district wouldn’t let him speak about a landfill zoning issue because he didn’t live there.
