48 people in Pennsylvania have been charged with assistance fraud and that’s according to the Pennsylvania Office of State Inspector General.  “Those who defraud the public assistance system are stealing from the most vulnerable among us,” State Inspector General Lucas M. Miller said. “They are taking resources away from those who truly need them and are undermining the integrity of vital programs. We will continue to work tirelessly to investigate and prosecute these cases, and we will hold those responsible accountable for their actions.” The restitution owed to the state in these cases is a little more than 214 thousand dollars. If convicted the maximum penalty defendants face is seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
