It’s deer season and state officials are warning drivers to use extreme caution to avoid collisions and potentially serious injury. Not only are they warning about the dangers, but also the liability of an accident involving a deer. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, a crash with deer or other wildlife is not considered a “not-at-fault incident.” The Pennsylvania Insurance Department says damage caused by such an accident falls under comprehensive coverage and shouldn’t affect your premium, but you could possibly still be cited. In the meantime new data from State Farm shows that Pennsylvania is number one when it comes to accident claims involving animals.
