Legislation pending in the state House could help law enforcement crack down on Medicaid fraud. Last month, Acting Attorney General Michelle Henry announced the arrests or convictions of providers who are accused of illegally billing Medicaid for 800-thousand-dollars. Representative Mike Cabell, a Republican from Luzerne, is the prime sponsor of House Bill 876. It would require providers to use the National Provider Identifier or State Provider Identifier when filing a claim. The legislation is based on recommendations from a Grand Jury convened in 2019.
