State lawmakers passed many new bills this past session that went into  effect as new laws as on Monday.  They cover a wide range of topics including lowered fitness requirements for new police officers, prohibiting shackles and solitary confinement for women prisoners, new rules for drivers who fail to stop for school buses, hospitals screening for fentanyl in urine tests, insurers being required to provide certain women’s health screenings for free, and increased staff salary disclosures for the four state-related universities.  The state’s laws were also updated for pet dogs to be licensed at three months and increases the price for dog licenses and kennel fees.
