Governor Shapiro is creating a flood insurance task force. He recently signed a ceremonial bill for the panel that will recommend ways to combat rising flood insurance premiums. Reforms to the National Flood Insurance Program directed FEMA to revise its flood plain maps. Those new maps now include many more homes in flood zones that require owners to have flood insurance. The governor has tasked the commission with finding programs to make sure flood insurance is accessible and affordable.
