As Groundhog Day approaches, PETA is asking that Punxsutawney Phil be relieved of his duties, forever. Punxsutawney Phil emerges every Groundhog Day to predict an early spring or six more weeks of winter. PETA is offering a giant gold coin to replace Punxsutawney Phil, stating that the weather prediction by a groundhog is no more reliable than the flip of a coin. PETA also says groundhogs typically avoid humans, and that keeping Phil confined year round so that he can be used to bring in revenue and attention to Punxsutawney one day a year, is inhumane.
