A little bird, no bigger than a mouse, called a Black Rail has officially been placed on Pennsylvania’s threatened species list. The decision was made on Saturday by the Pa., Game Commission. The Commission noted the species is uncommon in the Commonwealth, but there is strong evidence that some Black Rails have attempted to nest or establish territories in the state.  Earlier, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service classified the Eastern Black Rail subspecies as threatened back in 2020, and during that time they noted that up to five breeding pairs had been found in Pennsylvania.
