A 45 year old Claysburg man, who allegedly has a history of drunk driving is behind bars today after leading police on a high speed chase yesterday morning. Reportedly, Freedom Township Police received a tip from Greenfield Township Police that James Bywater was suspected of driving with a suspended license. In addition, he had outstanding warrants in both Blair and Bedford Counties. Freedom Township spotted Bywater and initiated a traffic stop only to see Bywater take off at a high rate of speed. Reportedly during the chase, Bywater hit speeds of 100 mph. Bywater’s car eventually wound up in a snowy, muddy area making driving difficult, resulting in his surrendering to police near the Greenfield/Freedom Township line. He was placed in the Blair County Prison in lieu of bail and faces numerous charges including criminal mischief, and recklessly endangering another person.
