State spending for the Department of Corrections in the next fiscal year is proposed to be at least three-billion-dollars. The appropriation contains 100-million in supplemental funding for inmate medical care, which includes drug addiction and mental health issues. Governor Josh Shapiro says money in the three-point-two-billion-dollar budget is also needed because of overtime costs caused by a guard shortage.
