Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium President Dr. Jeremy Goodman says none of the recent deaths of a number of animals in the zoo’s care have been due to human error. In the last seven months, the zoo has reported the deaths of a gorilla, an elephant, a red panda and a lion. The death of an 18-year-old sea lion named Seahawk was reported just last week. Goodman, yesterday, made public remarks about the deaths saying that each case has been reviewed internally, and that none involved errors on behalf of the animals’ caregivers. Goodman says the series of deaths has been hard on zoo staff.
