Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the August 13 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock (www.q94classicrock.com), and from 10 PM to midnight on 107.1 and 101.3 Jack FM (www.1071jack.fm)!
This week we revisited the mailboxes to check out more new recordings that have arrived from the area music scene in recent days and weeks. We debuted new numbers from Scorched Earth Syndrome, Chalk Dinosaur, Sterling Koch, Forrester Grey, Tim Woods, JS Country, The Platelets, Philly Grooves, Yigga Digga, Hate Grenade and Seethe. We also updated “Local Music News,” dug a 1980 live number from Cambria County’s Fantasy Airlift from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback” (in memory of Tim Homerski, who passed away on August 8), and stepped “Across State Lines” to hear the latest from Cambria County native Matt Nagy & Imaginary Eagles. (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. In Local Music News…
The area music scene was saddened by the passings of three musicians in recent days…Longtime area musician Tim Homerski passed away on Tuesday (Aug. 8) at age 65. Tim was a multi-talented instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, and was involved in numerous area rock bands since the 1970s. He was a member of such bands as Fantasy Airlift, Homer’s Army, and more recently, Acoustic Stew and Nag Champions Mystery Band. A Celebration of Life to honor Tim will take place on Saturday, September 9 at 2 p.m. at the pavilion at Hastings Park. The celebration will feature live music, food and fellowship.
A former Altoona area musician that moved to Florida, David Tornatore passed away last Sunday (Aug. 6) at age 78. Dave sang and played guitar for more than 60 years, and was a member of such bands as The Hallucinations, Spectrum and the Fabulous Flashbacks, plus a band he was involved with after moving to Florida, Bad Kitty.
And Paul Caracciolo Sr. passed away on Tuesday (Aug. 8) at age 80. Paul was an active musician of the Altoona area music scene going back to the 1950s, and was a member of such groups as Paul & the HiFi’s, the Dreamliners, the Stereos, the Ron Sassano Trio and the Prime Time Band. Paul was the father of current Bomb Cyclones and former Flight 19 drummer Paul Caracciolo II.
And one of State College’s longtime “dive” bars and live music venues may be going away soon. State College borough council approved a resolution on Monday night (Aug. 7) to authorize a solicitor to begin the process of using eminent domain to take over the downtown State College building housing The Brewery. Upon acquisition, the building would be demolished so a new parking garage can be constructed on its site. The building also houses the Music Mart music store and Canyon Pizza. The resolution has sparked public outcry.
