A planned Senate bill would require Pennsylvania schools to teach about the Holocaust, genocide and civil rights. The proposed legislation by Republican Senator Doug Mastriano would require schools to offer age-appropriate education on the subjects. A similar act passed by the General Assembly, recommended teaching about the issues, but Mastriano’s proposal would make it a requirement. Supporters say students need to be taught what happened, to help ensure the attitudes, behaviors and actions that led to genocide, never happen again.
