Two separate committees in the Pennsylvania General Assembly have approved different kinds of tax breaks for volunteer firefighters. A House panel has approved a measure sponsored by Democratic Justin Fleming of Dauphin County. It would exempt contributions made by veteran volunteer firefighters through their length of service programs from state income tax payments. A Senate panel has also approved a bill that would provide a 500-dollar tax credit on state taxes owed by volunteer firefighters who have been active for two years, and a one-thousand-dollar credit to those who’ve served for six years or more.
