A Penn State Extension veterinarian is emphasizing that even if area cows should become affected by Avian flu, there still would be no major impact on the milk supply. Hayley Springer said Wednesday during a biosecurity webinar that area farmers shouldn’t be too concerned over recent confirmed cases of avian flu jumping from wild birds to cows. Springer says pasteurization kills influenza and all milk transported between states is required to be pasteurized. The U.S Department of Agriculture also says milk from impacted animals is being diverted or destroyed so that it doesn’t enter the food supply.
