A 45 year old Altoona woman died in a house fire yesterday morning at a home located at 1918 8th Avenue. Marcy Laird was found unconscious when firefighters reached her. She was taken to UPMC Altoona, where she was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. Reportedly her husband, Tommy Laird was working on his truck behind the home when the fire began. He and a neighbor tried to get to his wife, but the fire had quickly spread and they were unable to do so. Three dogs and a cat also perished in the fire. The house was totally destroyed. Both a state police fire marshal and the city fire inspector are investigating the cause of the blaze.
