Concern Expressed Over Handling of “Mysterious” Illness at Somerset School

Students and parents reportedly expressed both anger and concern last night during a meeting of the North Star School District in Somerset, following last week’s medical emergency that sent 41 students to the hospital. Many in attendance expressed their concern over how the situation was handled, including not evacuating the school.  Last Thursday, at the North Star High School, a number of students showed symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Tests were conducted, all of which determined that no dangerous chemicals or gases were found in the school.  Pennsylvania Department of Health officials say the evidence from their testing suggests that carbon monoxide poisoning is unlikely the cause of the students becoming ill.  An investigation into the “mysterious” incident continues.
