Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering a new way to crack down on unemployment fraud in the state. A proposed bill in Harrisburg would penalize anyone who’s receiving unemployment benefits but fails to show up for a job interview. The state’s Senate Department of Labor and Industry Committee recently voted unanimously to pass a bill to crack down on the practice called ghosting. The committee chair — Senator Devlin Robinson — says the bill is the result of employer complaints about job seekers failing to show up for interviews. The proposed bill would cut unemployment benefits for any job candidates who ghost an interview. The measure now goes on to the full Senate.
