Altoona based Sheetz Inc., has been hit with a lawsuit by federal officials who alleged the company discriminated against minority job applicants. The suit contends the company discriminated against Native American, Black and multiracial job seekers by automatically weeding out applicants the company deemed to have failed a criminal background check. The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in federal court. Federal officials say they do not allege Sheetz was motivated by racial animus, but they take issue with the way the company uses criminal background checks to screen potential job seekers. Sheetz reportedly said yesterday they do not tolerate discrimination of any kind. Sheetz operates more than 700 stores in six states.
