A public comment meeting on Monday night at the Central Cambria High School saw nearly 100 community residents come out to voice their opposition to the closing of Jackson Elementary School. The meeting was held as the district is gauging feedback on a feasibility study it released regarding the possible consolidation of its elementary schools. Reportedly when faced with the decision of either paying higher taxes or closing the school, most in attendance favored an increase in taxes. Many in attendance said the 8 mile distance between the two elementary schools would be difficult for some families. Others expressed support for the smaller classes at Jackson saying it can lead to higher test scores. A final decision on the consolidation will be made by the Central Cambria School District board meeting on May 13th.
