State health officials are offering to replace expired potassium iodide tablets for Pennsylvania residents who live near active nuclear power plants. Authorities say the tablets – which are being distributed free of charge – will be distributed on June 12th to those living and/or working within ten miles of an active nuclear power plant. Health officials say the tablets can protect the thyroid gland against harmful radioactive iodine due to a nuclear power plant containment failure.
