A lone gunman in Butler, Pa., attempted to assassinate former President Donald trump yesterday, during a Trump rally in Butler, Pa., before thousands of supporters. In a statement, released later in the day, Trump thanked all law enforcement personnel for their rapid response. The gunman, identified as 20 year old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bechtel Park, Pa., was planted on a roof of a manufacturing plant, more than 130 yards away, when he fired the shots, one of which grazed the right ear of Trump. Sadly, the shooting resulted in the death of a male spectator, and critically injured two others. Crooks was killed by Secret Service snipers. Why Crooks targeted the former President is unknown at this time. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro released a statement after the assassination attempt saying, “Violence targeted at any political party or political leader is absolutely unacceptable. It has no place in Pennsylvania or the United States.” The investigation into the shooting is now in the hands of the FBI.
