Three years after an explosion killed one person in Tyrone, injured four others, and leveled a home, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has filed a complaint against Peoples Natural Gas Company for numerous safety violations. Reportedly, a serviceman sent to the scene of a gas leak on the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, that occurred because a contractor’s drill pierced a main, failed to shut the gas supply off properly, notify emergency services, or evacuate nearby homes before the explosion. The PUC is recommending an $800,000 fine, and a number of procedural reforms take place at Peoples. Peoples has 20 days to respond to the allegations.
