Dry weather is starting to show its effects on portions of Pennsylvania, including Bedford and Somerset Counties. Both southern Somerset and Bedford Counties are now under what is called a level D3 drought level, meaning, those areas are experiencing extreme drought conditions.  According to the U.S. Drought Monitor there are four categories to determine different levels of drought from D1, which is a moderate drought, to D4, which is an exceptional drought.  According to Drought.gov this is the first time in over 20 years that Extreme Drought Conditions have been reported in Pennsylvania.  Reducing water consumptions in those areas is recommended until conditions improve.
