A Cresson man is claiming self-defense in the fatal shooting of an Altoona man in June. Yesterday, 46-year-old Douglas Leap waived his preliminary hearing with his defense team seeking to expedite the proceedings. On June 16th the body of 31-year-old Ambrose Bowers was found on Front Street in Cresson Borough. Bowers had been declared dead at the scene having died from massive blood loss from multiple gun shots. Shortly thereafter, Douglas Leap was arrested and charged with the killing of Bowers. Leap faces charges including homicide and aggravated assault. Leap is currently in the Cambria County Prison.
