Two area women are behind bars today following an animal cruelty investigation that started with a house fire in the city, earlier this summer. Arrested were 22-year-old Rachael Feaster of Bedford, and 24-year-old Cassidy Berkheimer of Altoona. They each are facing nearly 100 charges after investigators say dozens of dead animal remains were discovered inside the home, on the 2400 block of 10th Street in Altoona, following a fire that occurred in June. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered the remains of 32 various animals including cats, rabbits, ferrets, and dogs in various stages of decay. A number of animals died in the blaze, however two dogs and a cat were rescued from the fire. Both women face dozens of counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals and other related charges. They are both in the Blair County Prison on $75,000 bail.
