Two Altoona men have been charged with attempted criminal homicide after a man was shot in the mouth on Saturday night. According to Altoona Police, arrested were 27-year-old Benjamin Merritts and 38-year-old James Cain Jr. Merritts was identified as the shooter. The shooting reportedly occurred on North 4th Avenue in Altoona. When police arrived on the scene they found a male victim who had been shot in the mouth with the bullet having exited the opposite cheek. He also had a bullet wound to his back. Both Merritts, and Cain were found a few blocks from the shooting and were taken into custody. Police further added the gun used in the shooting was reported stolen. Merritts is charged with attempted criminal homicide, receiving stolen property and other related offenses. Cain is facing charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and other related counts. Both have been placed in the Blair County Prison. Bail for Merritts has been set at $750,000. Cain’s bail is $500,000.
