Joe Hurd, who has been the longtime leader of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce will be retiring as of today. Hurd, who recently turned 70, has headed up the chamber for 27 years. Last October, Hurd was named as the 22nd recipient of the chamber’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Business Excellence. In an earlier interview with The Altoona Mirror, Hurd noted when he started, the chamber had 600 members. Today it boasts more than 1,000.
