Scam Alert Issued by Blair County Sheriff’s Office

The Blair County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of residents getting phone calls from a male caller identifying himself as a Deputy with the Blair County Sheriff’s Office.  The man claims that a jury duty or witness appearance has been missed, resulting in an arrest warrant being generated for the recipient.  The caller then provides instructions on how to handle the warrant, by paying a dollar amount.  The caller is using a smart phone that disguises the number to show as if it’s coming from the sheriff’s office.  The Blair County Sheriff’s Office is warning anyone who gets this call, that this is a scam, as they never call and present an option to settle any outstanding warrants over the phone.  If you receive such a call you are asked to report it to your local police agency, and never give personal information, or account information to anyone over the phone.
