Altoona City Council has adopted a budget for next year that will increase property taxes by 1.5 mills, and an earned income tax increase of 0.1%. The real estate tax increase will reportedly add an extra $150 a year on properties assessed at $100,000. The earned income tax increase would add another $50 a year on wages of $50,000, bringing the total to $850 for the year. According to the Altoona mirror, the tax increases will help the city add to its workforce by at least 12 positions, particularly within the Codes and Inspections and Community Development Departments. The total budget for next year is slightly under 42 million.
