UPMC Nurses Petitioning For Raises, More Staff, Time Off

upmc-2

Over one-thousand nurses within the sprawling UPMC health network are asking executives to boost staffing levels.  They have signed a letter to administrators, urging them to improve workplaces for nurses by increasing their hiring numbers and encouraging experienced staff to stay with pay raises and more time off.  They also argue that losing experienced nurses leads to poor care quality for patients.  The petition comes as Pennsylvania is expected to see a shortfall of more than 20,000 nurses by 2026.  A UPMC spokesperson says raises are on the way for many nurses who work in the system, as established in their union contracts.
