A person of interest, in the shooting death of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was apprehended this morning, a little after 9, at a McDonald’s, on Plank Road, here in Altoona. He’s been identified as 26-year-old Luigi Mangione of Towson, MD, who was arrested on firearms charges. According to the New York Post, Mangione is an anti-capitalist who liked online quotes from “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski, and he reportedly hated the medical community because of how it treated a sick relative. According to news reports, online obits showed he lost a grandmother in 2013 and a grandfather in 2017. Mangione is reported to have been a former prep-school valedictorian, and when apprehended had in his possession a gun, silencer, a number of fake ID’s, and a manifesto. Mangione was arrested this morning after Altoona Police received a tip. Altoona Police say they will release more information on the case this evening. Investigators with the NYPD are traveling to Altoona.
