Although Christmas season is starting to enter our rear-view mirror for another year, we present one more Christmas-themed song for our latest “Local Song of the Week” – courtesy of the Central PA Youth All-Star Band, who recently graced us with their rendition of The Who’s “Baba O Riley” (with accolades from none other than The Who’s lead singer Roger Daltrey). This group of young musicians – ages 13 to 18 years old – recently blended their talents on a modern Christmas favorite, Band Aid’s 1984 charity song hit “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” Written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the original song was created to raise funds and awareness for the 1983-85 famine in Ethiopia that left hundreds of thousands of people dead. The Central PA Youth All-Star Band’s rendition serves as a reminder that the theme of this song is still relevant today – that as we celebrate the Christmas season, to remember those who are less fortunate and do what we can to help, whether it be families in our own communities, or those affected by famine, disease or conflict elsewhere in the world. We all can make a difference. The Central PA Youth All-Star Band was established in 2023 by the Central Pennsylvania Music Hall Of Fame (CPMHOF).
