Pennsylvania state Representative Matt Gergely has died after spending weeks in the hospital. The state’s Democratic Caucus confirmed his passing yesterday evening after he suffered a medical emergency around the holidays. Gergely represented portions of the Mon Valley, and held various positions within the City of McKeesport before being elected to the state office. The county will hold a special election to select a replacement for Representative Gergely in the Pennsylvania House. With his passing, the state house is stuck in a 101-101 partisan divide, leaving the chamber deadlocked until that special election is held.
