Republican State Representative Jim Rigby, who represents Cambria and Somerset Counties, along with several other state lawmakers, have introduced a bill that would help low income Pennsylvania residents.  House Bill 79 would create a statewide medical debt relief program which would target the medical debt of low-income Pennsylvania residents for relief.  The bill would also improve the finances of healthcare providers and healthcare facilities, particularly those in rural areas.  The bill will also provide help in getting charity care to prevent any new medical debt.  The bill passed the state House with a bipartisan vote in the previous legislative session, and Governor Josh Shapiro included it within his fiscal year 2024-2025 budget.
