Commissioners in Centre County plan on sending a letter to the State Department of Corrections, in an effort to keep SCI Rockview in Bellefonte, from closing. Several weeks ago the state announced it was considering closing both Rockview, and the Quehanna Boot Camp in Clearfield County, as a cost cutting measure. The concern is how the closing of these facilities will affect the region’s economic health. Yesterday, during their weekly meeting, all three Centre County Commissioners expressed concerns that would arise if Rockview were to close. Their plan of action is to draft a letter to the Department of Corrections, requesting they reconsider the closing. Commissioners are also hoping for a dialog with the department before a final decision is made.
