The Altoona IRS Office is expected to be closed after the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, announced they are closing several government offices in Central Pennsylvania, as part of a plan to save taxpayer’s money.  With the closing of the IRS Office, located in downtown Altoona, a total savings of nearly $283 thousand dollars is expected.  Several offices in State College are also expected to close, including the United States Fish and Wildlife Services, and the Employment Standards Administration, Wage and Hour Division.  At this time it is not known what will happen to the federal workers who work at these offices.
