Homegrown Rocker Playlist/Recap 6/13/21

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the June 13 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!

Musical guests again graced our program this week – thanks to Pittsburgh rockers Sourmash for joining us via phone! “The Baddest Biker Band on the Planet,” the members of Sourmash discussed the group’s career and music; we introduced several of their songs, and previewed their upcoming area performances at the PA Roundhouse Rally on June 24 and Johnstown’s Thunder in the Valley on June 25! We also introduced a brand new tune by Six Bar Break, updated “Local Music News,” dug a 2002 number by State College’s Katsu from the archive for a “Local Music Flashback,” and reviewed Patrick Motto’s Reflection: Part 1 album in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 061321.)

In advance of next weekend’s annual Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival, the winners have been selected in the annual Pennsylvania Heritage Songwriting Contest, which awards prizes for the best original song submissions about the state of Pennsylvania, its people, history, traditions and heritage. Taking first place was William Ryan of State College with his song “Pennsylvania Grass.” Second place went to Leonardo DiSanto of Lancaster for his song “Letters from Centralia,” and third place was John Kingman Smith of Baltimore for his song “Grainery Road.” All three winners receive cash prizes, festival passes and the opportunity to perform their winning songs on stage at the Smoked Country Jam Bluegrass Festival. The event takes place from Thursday through Saturday (June 17-19) at Quiet Oaks Campground near Cross Fork, and raises money for the Lupus Foundation of America Philadelphia Tri State.

Two area bands will donate their talents next weekend to raise money to help with final expenses from the passing of a youngster. The bands From Within and Rukkus will perform during “Jam for Logan,” which happens Saturday (June 19) at the Slovak Club in Osceola Mills. The event starts at 7 p.m., and there will be basket giveaways and 50/50 drawings as well. Donation at the door is $5 per person, and proceeds will help with final expenses for a youngster, Logan, who passed away several weeks ago.
