For this week’s “Local Song of the Week,” we place the spotlight on an exciting group that has risen through the ranks on central PA stages, State College-based Donny Burns & the 3rd Degree! Donny (son of former Cut The Mustard and Sharp Turns frontman Don Burns Sr.) and his band have blazed their way to prominence on stages in State College and throughout central PA, delivering a high-powered show, and a sound that mixes elements of classic and modern rock with touches of funk and soul. This week’s spotlighted song, “Summer Rain,” comes from Donny Burns & the 3rd Degree’s debut album, “Satisfied,” which came out one year ago (August, 2020). The group just performed at this year’s annual Route 22 Rock & Blues Festival near Huntingdon, and also hosts their own evolving festival event, Wam Bam Mountain Jam, each July 4 weekend at a rural setting in the hills outside Port Matilda.
