Among the live music happenings this weekend is a multi-band show taking place at the ArtsAltoona Center on Friday evening. The “Bands in the Basement” series will feature five rising area music names – Nik Mik, The Pines, Skyline Drive, Abstentious and Walkney – taking the Blank Canvas stage beginning at 6 p.m. The show is open to music fans 18 and older, and admission is $10. The ArtsAltoona Center is located at 2212 6th Avenue, in the former location of the Simpson-Temple United Parish.
For those needing to get their Irish up, rowdy Pittsburgh-based Irish rock favorites the Bastard Bearded Irishmen return to McGarvey’s on Saturday night. Six members strong, this group fuses traditional Irish folk and pub music with a punk-rocking swagger and attitude, resulting in a fun, frantic and high-energy performance. Rising local rockers The Jaded Lips will open the night, with music kicking off at 9 p.m.
