Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the January 16 edition of “The Homegrown Rocker,” which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Q94 Classic Rock!
A little history lesson…Back in early 1983, several years before people started calling me “The Professor,” I was getting my feet wet in radio and doing on-air work for two student-run stations at Penn State (University Park). One was WDFM, where I was in the rotation for hosting the weekly Saturday night “Metal Wind” program, and the other was a dormitory radio station, WSHR (“South Halls Radio”). It was at the latter where I first met and got to interview members of Centre Hall-based hard rock/metal powerhouse Nitro – including drummer Tim Wilson. This was the first time I ever got to interview a band on a radio station, albeit a college dormitory station! Fast forward nearly four decades, and Tim – now based in Philadelphia – is still doing original music under his creative alias Wax Mekanix! Wax was our guest via phone this week – besides reuniting and speaking with each other in real time for the first time in years, Wax enlightened us on his current music and career. We heard songs from his Mobocracy album and his new split EP with Troll Teeth called Blunt, and – of course – we dug some vintage Nitro music off the 1982 Lethal 9-inch vinyl EP for this week’s “Local Music Flashback!” We also debuted new songs from Supermonkey and Almost Honest, updated “Local Music News,” and reviewed The Semi-Supervillains’ Play That Rock’n’Roll album in “The Professor’s CD Corner!” A memorable edition of the “Homegrown Rocker” to be sure! (For those who missed the program, a four-part podcast of this show is available for listening or download from Q94’s website, www.q94classicrock.com. Click on “The Professor’s Classroom,” and then scroll down to “Homegrown Rocker Podcast” and look for the four show segments marked with the date, 011622.)
