Lawsuit Can Proceed

THE FAMILY OF A FORMER BLAIR COUNTY PRISON INMATE CAN PROCEED WITH ITS FEDERAL LAWSUIT.

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT A FEDERAL JUDGE HAS RULED THAT THE FAMILY OF SAMANTHA BECKWITH CAN MOVE AHEAD WITH A LAWSUIT, CLAIMING NEGLIGENCE THAT LED TO HER DEATH. BECKWITH WHO COMMITTED SUICIDE WHILE IN LOCKUP, WAS DEALING WITH SEVERAL MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES THAT COUNTY PRISON OFFICIALS AND MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AT THE JAIL IGNORED, ACCORDING TO THE LAWSUIT FILED BY HER GRANDMOTHER. PRIMECARE INC OF HARRISBURG IS BEING SUED ALONG WITH THE COUNTY PRISON. THE FAMILY CLAIMS THAT SAMANTHA BECKWITH WOULD STILL BE ALIVE IF SHE HAD RECEIVED THE PROPER MEDICATIONS SHE NEEDED. THE JUDGE RULED THAT A JURY SHOULD DECIDE WHETHER THE TWO PARTIES INVOLVED WERE INDIFFERENT TO OR NOT AWARE OF BECKWITH’S CONDITION.
