IN A REPORT BY WTAJ, STATE SENATOR JAKE CORMAN SAID YESTERDAY THAT HE IS PROPOSING CUTTING THE STATE PORTION OF THE GASOLINE TAX FROM .59 CENTS PER GALLON DOWN TO .39 CENTS. CORMAN SAYS THAT THE STATE CAN USE SOME OF ITS FEDERAL TAX MONIES IT RECEIVED FROM THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN TO REPLACE THE LOST REVENUE THAT WOULD COME WITH A REDUCTION IN THE TAX. A BIG STEP WOULD BE THAT PRESIDENT BIDEN WOULD HAVE TO DECLARE A GAS TAX HOLIDAY. IF THAT HAPPENS AND THE CUT IS PASSED, IT COULD BE IN PLACE FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. GOV WOLF HAS SENT A LETTER TO WASHINGTON ASKING FOR THE GAS TAX HOLIDAY CORMAN SAID THAT IT IS ONLY A SHORT TERM FIX, AND THE NATION NEEDS TO FIND WAYS TO BECOME ENERGY INDEPENDENT.
