As the nation observed Vietnam Veterans recognition day Tuesday, communities in our region honored our local war veterans. Events took place throughout the day including in Johnstown at the Cambria County War Memorial. Tuesday’s ceremony recognized Cambria and Somerset County Vietnam War Veterans and their families, and also the thousands of men and women who were killed or labeled missing in action. The day became a nationally recognized day in 2017 when President Donald Trump signed into law the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act.
